Missions & Business.
Wait! Mission & Business? Isn't that like fire and ice? They
just don't go together. Or do they? Missionary visas didn't
even exist 200 years ago. Everyone was a business person; if
they were not, they may not have survived in the agrarian
societies. We have this crazy
stereotypical image of a missionary in the evangelical world as
someone in a pith helmet, gathering money and going off for four
years or forever to a remote area with an organ and a Bible.
Missionaries legitimately participated in community health and development initiatives
to gain access to restricted countries, providing services
where often none were available.
In the 21st Century, the integration of business and mission presents
a compelling creative access strategy for church planting among
unreached peoples. Sometimes it is the only sustainable way to establish
credibility and share the gospel of grace.
Can't we have church planters and entrepreneurs on the same
team?
